History of the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona

The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona had its introduction in 1963. The Reference 6239 with a black dial was

and Paul Newman dials were both produced with this watch model. This watch was produced until
approximately 1969.

In 1969, the Reference 6263 was released. This Rolex Cosmograph Daytona watch model features a
37.5mm case in stainless steel, 14k gold, and 18k gold, although only about 2,000 watches were crafted
in gold. The watch was offered with the standard dial or Paul Newman dial and had the same Valjoux
calibre 727 movement as prior Daytona watch versions. The Reference 6263 watch features a black
acrylic tachymeter engraved bezel and screw-down pushers. This watch version continued to be
produced until 1987.

The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona Reference 6265 was also produced throughout the same years as the
Reference 6263. This Daytona version has a 37mm case in stainless steel, 14k gold, or 18k gold, stainless
steel or gold bezel, screw-down pushers, and dial choices of standard, including the Big Red version, and

produced for three years in the early 1970s and was available in the standard dial and Paul Newman dial
versions. Other features included a 37mm case in stainless steel, 14k gold, or 18k gold, printed black
acrylic bezel, unthreaded pump pushers, and Valjoux calibre 727 movement. This is one of the rarest
Rolex Cosmograph Daytona watches.

In 1988, the brand introduced the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona which would replace the Valjoux calibre
727 with a new movement, the calibre 4040. The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona Reference 16520 has a
40mm stainless steel case, white or black dial, steel bezel, screw-down pushers, sapphire crystal, and
five different dial variations during production years 1988-2000.

The next Rolex Cosmograph Daytona watches the brand produced include the Reference 16523 and
Reference 16528. These Daytona watch versions are similar to the Reference 16520. The Reference
